Byte Club

This club is intended to bring the UT Bioinformatics community together to share tricks and tips, and to help resolve bioinformatics issues we may all face. The monthly meetings include a short talk followed by general discussion about new tools, pipelines, publications etc. Some of the meetings also include brief how-to tutorials.

ByteClub meets the third Wednesday of each month during the long semesters, in FNT 1.104, from 12-1 p.m.

We are looking for volunteers to speak at upcoming club meetings. So, email Dhivya Arasappan if you're interested.

BioITeam

The BioITeam (short for bioinformatics team) serves as a consortium of bio-computing scientists at the University of Texas at Austin.

The consortium is comprised of scientists from the Center for Biomedical Research Support, the Center for Systems and Synthetic Biology, Genomic Sequencing and Analysis Facility, the Texas Advanced Computing Center, and Department of Statistics and Data Sciences.

The BioITeam maintains a wiki here with many useful tools.

BEACON

UT Austin is part of the the BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, an NSF Science and Technology Center founded with the mission of illuminating and harnessing the power of evolution in action to advance science and technology and benefit society. Research at BEACON focuses on biological evolution, digital evolution, and evolutionary applications in engineering, uniting biologists who study natural evolutionary processes with computer scientists and engineers who are harnessing these processes to solve real-world problems. BEACON is headquartered at Michigan State University, with partner institutions at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Washington, North Carolina A&T State University, and the University of Idaho.
